Jackie Castro Recovery

Donation protected
We wanted to let everyone know that we are extremely grateful for all your love and support through this extremely challenging ordeal. As you know, at no fault of her own, Jackie was involved in an extremely bad 4wheeler accident back on March 21st. As a result, Jackie sustained extreme head and facial trauma and it will take months and possibly even years to overcome the procedures and stresses of the event and the things yet to follow. To add to the obstacles of what Jackie is going through, the Coronavirus is making it difficult to allow for a traditional and stable recovery in a secured hospital environment. Jackie was discharged directly home from the ICU yesterday 3/27/2020, after they removed her Tracheostomy tube to protect her from the rampant Covid-19 virus. There is going to be a lot of needed home health care and added expenses due to this Coronavirus considered decision. Unfortunately, not being able to receive family and friends at her bedside only isolates her and adds to the stress during her recovery. This clearly creates a situation that doesn’t provide the support and encouragement one would normally expect while healing. This is the only solution however to protect her from the increased risk of infection.  As most of you know, at the end of 2019 Jackie received her Registered Nursing Degree and only just recently took a job as a Registered Nurse at Countryside Mease Hospital. She was also simultaneously enrolled in a program to advance her degree and to ultimately earn her Nurse Practitioners’ Degree. Jackie is an amazing person, with an incredible drive and an extremely caring personality! Although this accident may delay her ability to complete her goals in the time frame she originally set for herself, we are sure she will accomplish all she has set out to do and more.  All the help and support from her medical staff along with family members, friends and even complete strangers who have generously donated and reached out to her through this event, to relieve some of the stress during her recovery, has been overwhelming and we can’t thank you enough! A silver lining to this tragic event is that after surviving this hospitalization it will only make her a more understanding and empathetic nurse.
