Women in STEM Mural

Our names are Teresa Liang, Emma Chen, Rachel Ding, Raymond Wang, Summer Sun, Ryan Sun, and Jonathan Liu and we are currently high-school students. We have noticed that there is little to no encouragement for women to pursue a career related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. And we want to change that. This year, we want to paint a mural that displays several influential female scientists, mathematicians, and others in the STEM field, for our local library--the Petaluma Regional Library. We want to communicate to people, especially younger girls like us, that it is an incredibly great achievement to walk down a path related to the STEM field, a field that is heavily dominated by males.

In light of the current situation, we also want to exhibit more POC female scientists so that young women of all kinds of different backgrounds are inspired by our art. We have seen a lack of POC women in the STEM field, and we want to start changing the way people see these women; we want others to celebrate this idea.
