Simon's Rock Tuition Help

When I started at Simon's Rock I believed that the opportunities there would be able to launch my education to a new frontier, that of college, and help me be in a place that is academically fostering. Hello, I'm Matthew Getch, an Engineering student from California trying to finish my sophomore year of college in the cold of Massachusetts. I decided to leave my high school in Chula Vista, CA, after I finished Junior year after I applied just to see what would happen, and was quickly accepted to Bard College at Simon's Rock. After receiving a scholarship that would cover my full tuition (but not housing and other costs of attending college so far from home), I made a big decision to leave my friends, family, and the only home I had ever known, and begin a new adventure by going to the wilds of the East. Fast forward and suddenly I've escaped what would have been a wasted year of high school. I've spent the last three semesters taking classes that opened up new worlds to me, studying subjects that were far and away from the rudimentary state curriculum. It has been a life changing experience.

     My mother and grandma moved in together to help cover the tuition, but coming off of my third semester my mom has been struggling with a lot of problems and she hasn't been able to hold down a job. I was able to return to school this semester only due to the incredible kindness of two families of my classmates who stepped in to help by lending me enough to cover past due tuition, plus the fees for this year, which total around $12,000. I am raising money through this site to try to pay down as much of the tuition as I can and reduce the burden to these families who have made it possible for me to finish my sophomore year at Simon's Rock, so that I can transfer to a four year college.
