SOPHIA'S FIGHT AGAINST LEUKEMIA

Donation protected

My childhood friend Priscilla's daughter was diagnosed with Leukemia on August 20, 2012. :(   Their bills are starting to add up and with a newborn that is 1 1/2 months old they have been having to commute a great deal back and forth from Children's Hospital to West Covina, CA  to be with both of their children.  I have created this fundraiser to help them out with their expenses. If you could donate anything: $5, $10, $20 , etc. that would be greatly appreciated.  I will be giving the money straight to Priscilla once received after all applicable fees the website charges.  I have asked for Priscilla's permission to do this and she agreed and said it would help her and her family out a lot.

I have taken the below from Priscilla's Facebook page:

The latest on Sophia: There's good news and then there's news that's not bad but just plain sucky.

The Good News: This morning a doctor from the disease control came to talk to us and she said they pin pointed what type of bacteria it is and said it's treatable and it's a common thing to happen in patients like Sophia or patients that have some kind of picc or port. We are so thankful for this ne...ws because we know things could be worse. She will be on several medications daily until she gets better and will continue her chemo treatments after they get all this under control. On Monday Sophia will have another EKG done and have the back of her eyes checked out because they said since they took the picc line out the bacteria is no longer attaching itself to the line and sometimes the bacteria looks for other places to hide, and the heart and the eyes are favorite places for it to go if it does.

The Sucky News: Because of the type of infection she has Sophia will need to be hospitalized for 3-6 weeks or longer depending on if they find the bacteria growing elsewhere. Of course we are hoping for the least possible amount of time here, but whatever it takes for our little girl to get back to her silly self. We are constantly finding ourselves adjusting our life to whatever this cancer throws our way and this is one of those times. It's going to be tough adjusting to life here; not home, somewhat comfy and not being with family, especially little brother. I'm hoping Sophia will perk up soon and then she will be able to go out and play and make herself a little home here.
