Trying to write, get published, market your book, work a full-time job, while taking care of family, while managing to stay sane is not exactly a cakewalk, as a writer. It's even harder when you sign your work over to a publishing house that takes advantage of disenfranchised women, who might not know better.
My name is Ebony Diamonds. I'm a 33-year-old wife, mother and published author with over 55 manuscripts in my portfolio. The problem? My former publisher was removed from Amazon, for violating their TOS, and therefore; my books went up in flames with his reputation. Christmas came and went with hundreds of authors under Leo Sullivan productions without being paid full royalties, according to the terms and conditions of our contract. Every excuse that Leo Sullivan and Leo Sullivan Presents, has come up with in defense of not paying us, is morally bankrupt and legally indefensible. From calling him out on Social media, to just simply playing the modern-day Suge Knight his excuses run the gamut. None of them are justifiable.
I have 3 young children to feed, and this man and his scandalous ethics and the unfathomable way he is treating the women who write or him, have taken 5 years of my work from me. I'm drowning in debt, with no way to recoup my losses or my 55 pieces of fiction that were published under his publishing house. I'm at the point where I can't keep my phone, my car insurance has lapsed, and my internet is being thrown in the hat as the next sacrificial lamb to go. It's at this moment that I realized, I cannot feel sorry for myself, or continue to just spout on social media. I need help, and this is one of the only ways I know how to do it. I'm not used to having to ask for help, and this is extremely difficult for me to do. I'm a proud woman who has made her own way, with no handouts, no privilege, and sheer sacrifice and determination.
To let someone walk away with not only my dignity, my livelihood and now my financial security is the last straw for me. $1, $5, $10. Whatever you can donate will be used to pay bills, help me secure legal representation to fight this guy in the legal court of law and not social media, and also have funds to pay someone to review his books, which is an optional addendum to the contract. (Article XI - See below). I am doing an expose with a journalist to tell my story, which is the story of so many other writer's which will hopefully put an end to this disgusting practice, aimed to harm and not edify black, women authors. I grew up in southeast DC and always imagined become a writer, after going through a domestic violence relationship I decided to write to relieve my emotions.
