Help My Wife Fight Cancer, Please!!!

I am currently unemployed and going back to college in order to get a degree for a better career, and my wife is disabled. My wife has insurance, but we were told yesterday that we will be having to front the 20% co-pay for everything that she has to have done.  Today we have to go do some pre-op testing and it is going to cost us $186 just for that.  We have four wonderful children that live with us, so the added costs are going to be a tremendous strain on our financial situation.  

When we see the doctor today I am going to try and get a rough estimate for how much we are going to need before she can have surgery, but from what I am told the average cost of just the surgery is between $16,000 and $18,000.  That means that our co-pay will be between $3,300 and $3,600 just for her thyroid removal surgery.  I am not certain what the cost of the other tests, radiation treatments, and follow ups will be at this time, and we pray they will not be as much.
