Jeff’s Battle With Guillian Barre Syndrome

As some of you know my brother, Jeff, woke up on Monday with some sore/heavy sensation in his legs and almost fell getting out of bed, he thought it was just a result of playing hockey and didn’t really think much more of it. The next morning he felt the same way, and additionally had tingling in his feet and fingertips. He stayed at work all day, dispute struggling to walk, his symptoms continued and worsened throughout the day. Tuesday night he went into urgent care, he was seen by a provider and they decided to send him to ER. After arriving at ER they did some testing and came to the conclusion that he needed to be evaluated by a neurologist, which they did not have at that hospital. So again he went on his way to UW Madison ER this time, they did some blood tests and a lumbar puncture he has met with their neurology team and they are stumped. His results came back negative for what they were testing to rule out, he has numbness and tingling in his extremities but also has hypersensitivity. They did an MRI Wednesday night and ruled out MS, sent his spinal fluid in for additional testing, and did an EMG. The EMG showed nerve dampening, and the decided to treat for Guillain Barre Syndrome. Jeff started his IVIG treatment today, and now we wait to see improvement. We are very hopeful that the treatment will begin to work and he will be able to go home Monday, just before his 31st birthday on December 24th! I am asking for your help, prayers, and positive thoughts. Jeff will be burdened with a great deal of medical bills when all is said and done and that’s the last thing he needs to stress about right now.
