Help Marcus beat brain cancer!
Donation protected
Great news!! A seemingly hopeless situation has now turned into a real chance for Marcus to fight back against his cancer... a true Christmas miracle! :) All the generous donations made by family, friends, and good-willed strangers to our first plea for help (at https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-marcus-swim-past-cancer) came to just over $5,000... which we've used to find him some insurance coverage! (This is thanks to the "guaranteed issue" aspect of ACA policies, which basically allows people with pre-existing conditions to get coverage.)
But we're not out of the woods just yet: his new policy has a $4k deductible and a $9k maximum co-pay... $13k in total. This is still a lot of money to come up with, but the good news is that once we reach that point in expenses, the rest of his treatment is 100% covered by insurance!
Since the last fundraiser we've learned from the doctors that Marcus's treatment will cost around $850k over the course of 7 months... that's an average of just over 4 grand per day! So it's very likely we'll hit $13k very quickly after his treatment starts.
But Marcus's family will need more than just $13k: one of his parents will have to take time off from work to help poor Marcus endure the horrible side-effects the chemotherapy drugs will inflict on him (severe nausea, infections, possible organ damage, and more). That means a loss of income.
With all that in mind, we've decided to halt the previous fundraiser and launch this one with the much more achievable target of $13k (minus the $5k that's already been raised) plus $27k to help replace the wages his parent's will lose over the 7 months they stay home from work to help him.
So the new target goal is ($13k - $5k) + $27k, or $35,000*... a much more attainable goal than our original target of $400,000!
So please, donate if you can, or pass on to as many friends, family and colleagues as you can... and help Marcus beat brain cancer! :) Thank you and God bless.
[*whatever donations are left after Marcus's treatment is over will be donated to St Jude's to help other children with cancer]
