Give Hope To Matteo

Matteo is a 17-year-old boy from Bergamo. When he was two years old, he suddenly stopped talking, then he resumed talking again at the age of five. At the age of six he was diagnosed with severe autism, obsessive compulsive disorder and mental retardation.   At the age of seven he was admitted to the Bosisio Parini Hospital, where he was diagnosed with an active psychosis with auditory hallucinations. At that point, Matteo started a very heavy drug therapy. Since then, Matteo has not been able to attend school continuously (only for a few hours a week).   To date, Matteo is not autonomous in any way (he depends on his parents to look after him fully). His future (if nothing changes) is most likely with Matteo ending up in an institution (where he can be properly looked after). Me (his mother), together with his father are fighting to avoid this from happening. Indeed, we would like Matthew to stay in his home (our home), which is a place he knows and loves. To achieve this goal, very expensive treatments are needed. We (Matteo’s parents) found a clinic in Geneva (Switzerland), where through specific exams (and subsequently, with a personalized diet), many children and youngsters have improved their conditions (so we would love to try and send Matteo there, to recover). In that clinic, a psychiatrist will look after Matteo all the way.   The problem is: this clinic is private and very expensive. Me (Matteo’s mum) had to leave work ten years ago to look after my son, because he needs continuous assistance. For the past five years, Matteo has been living indoors, does not see and does not talk to anyone. Matteo has always suffered in his life, for once I would like to see him happy and in peace (and maybe even seeing him smiling).    Many thanks to all those who visit our fundraiser page "Give hope to Matteo" and hopefully we can raise enough money to help Matteo.

Matteo è un ragazzino di 17 anni di Bergamo. Quando aveva due anni ha , improvvisamente, smesso di parlare. Ha ricominciato a parlare a cinque anni. All'età di sei anni gli è stata diagnosticata una grave forma di autismo, un disturbo ossessivo compulsivo e un ritardo mentale. A sette anni è stato ricoverato presso il Bosisio Parini, dove gli è stata diagnosticata, una psicosi attiva con allucinazioni uditive. Ha cominciato una terapia farmacologica molto pesante. Da allora non è più riuscito a frequentare la scuola in maniera continuativa, ma solamente per poche ore la settimana. Ad oggi Matteo non è autonomo in nessun modo. Il suo futuro, se non cambia qualcosa, è di finire in un istituto. Io e suo padre stiamo lottando affinché questo non avvenga. Vorremmo che Matteo, rimanesse nella sua casa che conosce e che ama. Per riuscire a realizzare questo sono necessarie cure molto costose. Abbiamo trovato una clinica in Svizzera, a Ginevra, dove , attraverso esami specifici e, successivamente, con una dieta personalizzata, molti bambini e ragazzini sono migliorati tantissimo. Noi ci vorremmo tanto provare. Associando, a questa clinica, uno psichiatra che lo segua in tutto il percorso. Tutto è privato e molto costoso. Io ho dovuto abbandonare il lavoro già dieci anni fa per seguirlo, poiché necessita di un'assistenza continuativa. Da ormai cinque anni vive chiuso in casa, non vede e non parla con nessuno. Matteo ha sempre sofferto nella sua vita, per una volta vorrei vederlo un po' sereno.  E magari vederlo persino sorridere.
