Gage the Courageous!
Gage
Dixon is a brave and courageous little 7 yr old boy that has already experienced
a lifetime of health issues centered around his digestive system. When Gage was
born (4 weeks early) in March of 2005, he had bladder distention, a congenital
condition that occurs in 1 of 8000 boys born. For the first year of his life,
Gage was straight cathed every 2 hours, day and night, with the hopes that his
bladder would shrink to normal size and begin functioning properly. It never
shrunk.
Since his
birth, Gage has gone through many, many procedures, surgeries, hospital visits
and has been treated for several different conditions including: neurogenic
bladder, chronic constipation, megacolon, prolapse of the bowel, chronic intestinal
pseudo-obstruction, gastroparesis, cyclic vomiting syndrome, bowel
obstructions, volvulus (twisting of intestines), gall bladder removal and chronic
bladder infections.
Gage has
also had a stomach pace-maker placed on his body and he has been poked and
prodded with IV lines, PICC lines, a broviac line, G-tubes, J-tubes and he has to
be fed with total parenteral nutrition (TPN) which is used for patients who
cannot or should not get their nutrition through eating.
Just a
few days before Christmas this year, he had to go to the hospital again, this
time it was discovered that his left kidney is filled with stones and the
doctors are currently working on a plan of treatment for Gage.
Below is
a statement from Kris, Gage's mother:
If you know Gage, then you know he is
blessed! He is a remarkably happy, enthusiastic, loving and caring young man.
He has blessed our life and made our family closer to each other and to God our
Father. Thank you for each prayer, each penny and every kind word given to us.
We are blessed.
As you can imagine, Gage and his family have been through so much. The medical bills and travel costs are never ending. Your kind donation of any amount would greatly help to ease the financial burden that the Dixon family continues to bear. I know that they would also much appreciate the addition of your prayers along with the many that are already offered to our Father on their behalf. Please join us, their friends and family, in making a difference in their lives by helping to raise $50,000 for them.
