Ortiz Family House Fire Recovery

Donation protected
On the morning of Saturday, August 31, a fire gutted the home of Adam and Stevie Ortiz in a suburb of Killeen, Texas. With the fast spread of the fire, the family was lucky to get out alive, but lost nearly all of their possessions to fire, smoke and water damage. This has been especially hard on their two young children, Grace and Thomas, who lost everything but the pajamas they escaped the house in—clothes, toys, books, furniture, mattresses.

Gracie was already struggling with anxiety and has been devastated by the loss, and Thomas—who is on the autism spectrum—doesn’t understand why they can’t just go home, when that home doesn’t exist anymore.

While the Red Cross has put them up in a small hotel room over the holiday weekend, the family isn’t sure how much will be covered or what will happen next, and needs help covering costs they are already adding up, including replacement medications, food, and clothing.

This Go Fund Me is being set up on their behalf by Lisa Ortiz, Adam’s sister, and Emily Rose, Stevie’s sister. As a retired cop and disabled veterans, Stevie and Adam live on a fixed income and their “rainy day” money is very quickly drying up considering the scope of the loss.

Anything that you can give will be a help to our family.
