My daughter Brianna has been asked to be a People to People
International Student Ambassador. People to People was founded by
President Eisenhower, believing that "the path to peace was paved by shared
experiences and understanding and that ordinary citizens of different
nations could solve their problems and live harmoniously with one
another." Her acceptance certificate says that selection is based on
"demonstration of leadership and citizenship, a desire to learn about
diverse cultures, and a willingness to venture into the world in the
name of peace, friendship, and understanding."
She and her fellow travelers have had meetings and team building leading up to their departure, will be doing a service project soon on a local level and will do another once they arrive, reading and passing mandatory testing, culminating in the chance to best learn about another nation's peoples, government, and environment.
All of this is meant to help develop future leaders that embrace and celebrate diversity by learning that regardless of how different we may be, we are all really the same - human. Mankind everywhere will benefit from their global acceptance of others and promotion of environmental responsibility.
She will, however, need some assistance in offsetting the cost of her travel, so any donation, no matter how large or small, to help her achieve this opportunity would be tremendously welcomed and greatly appreciated!!

There are other ways to help as well. We are continually collecting used cell phones (screen intact, no water damage, and keep your SIM card) and used ink jet cartridges. The phones will have previous information cleared and will be recycled and members of her delegation participating in this initiative will be rewarded with some reduction in monies due. If recycling is not possible, items will be disposed of in a method safest for the environment - furthering their quest for maintaining a green plantet. See the "Reward Levels" section for information about the Dr. Dre Beats headphones raffle. Candy sales, 25-25/50 raffle, donation days - among other things - will be coming soon.
