Send Harris to Interlochen!

Harris is the third of seven children, all of whom are very active performing artists. Harris was active in athletics until about six years ago when he fell in love with dance. He has been training and competing ever since. He has won many awards and scholarships. Harris has spent the last five summers training at programs such as Pacific Northwest Ballet, Oregon Ballet Theatre, Ballet Arizona, and Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. When he and his family determined last year that he would need to continue his training away from home this year, Interlochen was their first choice due to their incredible reputation for both artistic and academic education.

He has been a leader, both at his dance studios and at his school. In addition to school and dancing upwards of 25 hours per week, Harris took at job in the school cafeteria in order to make this move possible. His commitment and passion are unwavering, but he balances that drive with his fun, outgoing personality and many close friendships. After graduation, he hopes to continue his training at a top notch ballet company, His ultimate goal is to eventually return to Spokane and start a professional ballet company here.

While he was awarded a generous scholarship and we have been saving as much as we can, there are still a lot of expenses for our family to cover. We’d love for you to partner with us in helping this committed young artist achieve his dreams Any extra funds will go towards travel costs to audition for ballet companies for after graduation.

Interlochen Arts Academy attracts more than 500 young artists from 40 countries and all 50 states. Together, they study music, theatre, dance, visual arts, creative writing, comparative arts, and motion picture arts in a college-like setting. While producing more than 250 artistic presentations in the school year, Academy students also master rigorous college-preparatory academics that prepare them to take prominent roles in any professional endeavor.

The Arts Academy was founded in 1962 to provide year-round training in the arts coupled with challenging and comprehensive college-preparatory academics. This combination has resulted in sustained achievement in arts and academics. Since the school was established, it has produced 43 Presidential Scholars, a record unmatched by any school in the United States, public or private. Alumni include singer-songwriter Jewel, actress Felicity Huffman, jazz drummer Peter Erskine and car designer Bill Zheng. More than ten percent of the nation’s orchestral musicians can claim roots at either Interlochen Arts Academy or Camp. Since 1958, more than 90 Grammy Awards have been presented to Interlochen alumni of the Academy and Camp.
