Studying the World With Virtual Reality

My name is Mr. Reynolds and I am trying to raise money for my history classes at RJ Reynolds High School in Winston Salem NC. In my classes we study historical topics, locations, art, music and culture from all over the world. These can be very fun and interesting topics to discuss, read and write about. However, the most effective learning often takes place when students have an opportunity to personally experience the topics they are studying. With a set of Virtual Reality Headsets for my classroom, my students will have the opportunity to visit, see hear and live the experiences of famous people and places from around the world.
With the Oculus Go headset I will be able to take my students on virtual field trips to the Great Pyramids in Egypt, the Acropolis in Athens, the Great Wall of China, Machu Pichu and many other incredible locations that they may never have the opportunity to visit in person.
Additionally, Museums around the world have begun creating virtual tours of their collections and exhibits. For example, students can immerse themselves in exhibits from the Anne Frank House with excerpts read from her diary, examine the Kremer Collection of famous works of Art or explore a digital recreation of the ancient city of Rome.
If I reach my goal of $3000 raised I will be able to purchase 10-12 headsets (enough for students to share with a partner), a tablet (with protective case) for controlling the headsets, a lockable storage/charging cart and funds for the various applications and experiences that are not offered free of charge.
I greatly appreciate donations of any size; small or large. By donating to this cause, in the first year alone, these headsets will be used by a minimum of 150 students, in my classes alone. Additionally, if the project proves to be a succcess, I would like to share the benefits of this technology with my coworkers at Reynolds.
I truly believe that the effect that these headsets will have on my history classes will be tremendous. Giving students the opportunity to visit and experience the amazing places our world has to offer has the potential to radically change their interest in history.
