Caitlin Mickles was not feeling well during late December of 2018. The symptoms gradually became worse to the point where she had to visit a primary care physician. She was diagnosed with influenza “A” in early January. Although she was receiving treatment her symptoms were not improving and she continued to have high fevers. At times she felt extremely fatigued, hallucinating, developed painful headaches, unable to grip objects, shaking hands and body, random chills and sweating at the same time, barely able to speak, had trouble comprehending what others were saying, trouble with any kind of movement, and trouble breathing. She could also feel discomfort in her chest area, abdomen, back, joints, and legs. She also had lots of swelling throughout her body. She had to return to the doctor for lab work at the student health center. The results showed some abnormalities and she was sent to the emergency room. She was eventually diagnosed with lupus and a kidney disorder. By that time she already missed several weeks of class and was advised by her professors to drop classes for the Spring 2019 semester. Because the severity of the situation was not known until after a specific withdrawal date had passed, she was charged for that semester. Until the current bill is paid she is unable to finish registering for summer or fall classes. The goal is to raise $4500 to help cover the bill so that she may return to college. With many medical bills as well, we hope to help in any way!
