1927 DENVER LANDMARK RUSSIAN BATH STRUGGLES

Lake Russian & Turkish Baths, located at 3540 West Colfax, was built brick by brick by Harry and Ethyl Hyman. They fled wartime Russia seeking a better life. When they arrived in Denver, Harry and Ethyl decided they wanted to open a business that would share their culture of the community bath house. They knew Denver residents would enjoy the amazing health benefits of eucalyptus steam and sauna. Lake Bath has served the Denver community continuously since 1927, through recessions, depressions, wars, and countless cultural changes. It is a local treasure, bringing together people from all walks of life to share in community and the health benefits of Russian and Turkish baths. This treasure is now in peril due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The pandemic forced us to close completely for over a month, and current operations are at only 3% of capacity. Due to government restrictions, we are now only able to offer massage. The massage therapists receive over 85% of that revenue. While our income has plunged, the bills have not. We still have to pay substantial taxes and utilities, and we are doing our best to keep some of our non-massage employees paid and working despite the reduction in revenue.
We are in dire straits and do not want to lose our 93 year old, 4th generation family-operated community business. Donations in any amount would be a blessing. As a show of appreciation, donations in any amount will make the donors eligible for a free GoFundMe day when we reopen our baths. We understand that many people have been affected by the pandemic and that even people who want to donate might not be able. If so, sharing this fundraiser would be equally appreciated.
