Our Story
Team 13/or/Bust was created in July 2012 when one friend reached out to another and said, "Let's Do It" (It meaning a HALF-MARATHON) "Seriously, Are You In?". Initially our hopes were to welcome 40, which is only a few years away, with a vengeance, but our purpose grew into so much more. As a health supportive chef in training http://www.3wholeplates.com and a psychotherapist www.bridgescounselingnj.com we found great importance in challenging ourselves mentally, physically and spiritually. Each day in our training for this 13.1 mile race we learn something new about ourselves and eachother; strengthening our 23 year long friendship. In our training, we learned that you are only limited by what you think, but your actions can free you and we have learned that there is glory is beyond the pain. Most importantly we hope to lead by example, showing our three little ones, Matthew, Sofia, and Lily how rewarding it is to take care of yourself through exercise, conscious eating, and personal goal setting. But then the story just gets better; we get this opportunity to run for a cause. Unfortunately, in life we experience the unpredictable outcomes of disease and solid self care seems to be a good antidote, however, sometimes it's just not enough. Our cause, The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is the global leader in the fight to discover, develop, and deliver advances that cure, better treat, and prevent Type I Diabetes in children, adolescents and adults. Our team consists of two women; we are mothers, daughters, wives, sisters, and friends and we have and will continue to contend with disease trying to take the ones we love, but not without a fight!
