I
was born with extraphy of the bladder. In short, this means I was born
with my bladder on the outside of my body. After more than 10 surgeries and now
a lifetime of catheterization I still need more surgery to make this
issue bearable for my daily living.
This is a fairly traumatic event on the body. Over time it has caused urethral stricture disease, making it not only difficult and painful to cath, but painful just to
live. Something as simple as using the restroom - something you may not
put much thought into yourself - is a very uncomfortable experience for
me, not to mention costly. This will take at least two surgeries to
fix, and as many as six. There is not a doctor in Boise who has been
able to provide proper help beyond quick fixes, such as pain killers and
other drugs. I've had to travel to Oregon to have a proper diagnosis
and to be refereed to a doctor who can help me. The doctor I need is in
Seattle.
In order to get the help I need and see this doctor, I have to become a resident of WA. This is because my insurance won't cover the preexisting condition and the hospital won't even bill me - let alone give me their financial aid - unless I'm a WA resident. Without
hope of getting this taken care of in Idaho, I have no choice but to
move to Seattle on the 14th of October. This will be a difficult chapter
of my life with many sacrifices
and obligations.
These obligations will be
personal and financial. I need help, help with moving costs, rent and
utilities until I find a job, and anything I can put toward this first
surgery while I am becoming a resident of WA. When I am a resident, I
can make the appointments and schedule my surgery. If I'm able to raise
enough, I can knock out the first surgery before I start a new job.
Otherwise I have to find one that is comfortable with letting me have three weeks off for the surgery and recovery time.
This is a difficult thing for me to ask, but if you can find it in your hearts and wallets to help I would greatly appreciate it. I've tried to keep this short, and if I have omitted anything that you deem as important information, please feel free to message, me, and I will give you the details.
