Hello everyone... Well, the time is come to ask for your help. Guinness isn't doing well, and his problems are increasing with age. As you know, Guinness is my fur child. We do everything together. Those of you who know Guinness, know that he is one of the most gentle, kind, goofy (and handsome) dogs you will ever meet. He's a gentle giant at 90 pounds. He's an english "block head" black lab who LOVES the water and his tennis ball.
Over the years, we have dealt with a crazy amount of neurological issues, due to finding out after the fact that his breeder over-bred his litter. He should have never been born. At the time, when we signed the papers to pick him up, I was oblivious to what it meant to be a "protected breed" where I wasn't allowed to re-breed him. But after research, I learned his breeder over bred his litter, causing him to be born with numerous genetic disorders. When trying to contact the breeder to help with vet bills when he was only 6 months old, her idea of fixing the problem was taking him back, and giving me a new puppy. How on earth could I do such a thing?
To start, he is badly pigeon toed-- so after even 2-3 miles of basic walking, he gets blisters on the bottom of his feet since he is not walking on his pads like how normal dogs do. His doctor wanted to surgically correct his feet with pins when he was a puppy, but I refused, just making sure he would be comfortable indoors. He can't run long distances, can't jump high, and his back legs fail on him often due to nerve/muscle issues. Greed from his breeder has caused a series of internal issues, including the latest that happened a few months ago. He has had continued symptoms of Masticatory Muscle Myositis. Every so often, the symptoms flare up, and all I can do is lay by his side and massage his head and face. His jaw sometimes gets locked shut, and he cries out in pain when he tried to hold a tennis ball. Though all this sucks and has somewhat been expected, the latest ER visit has caught me by surprise. The vet & myself have no clue as to what is wrong at this point. He is acting like he may have gotten poisoned, but there isn't a sign at all that he had gotten into anything in the house. He is currently still at the ER being monitored around the clock to make sure his fever & vomiting do not come back. The doctor will also be doing a biopsy on a mass cell tumor that has been fluctuating in sizes month after month. Hopefully it is nothing to worry about. I will keep you all posted after his second set of X-rays and blood work come back.
With all this said, I am buried with vet bills, and need your help. I have cared and treated my diabetic cat, including 9 months of insulin injection twice a day at home, in addition to numerous treatments for my 2nd cats heart murmur and panting issues. I guess I have been blessed with 3 problem fur children, but this isn't their fault. I will not give up on them, and will give them the best care they need to be comfortable and to live a happy life.
