12-24 House Fire - Lost everything

Ana? There has been a fire. We barely made it out....oh my god. (Sobbing)The house is totaled.
That is the call I received from my rentors this morning. As the details have been coming in...the neighbors garage caught fire & it lept over to my rental. By the blessings be, the rentors & their 3 children made it out safely. But they have lost everything inside to either fire, water or smoke.
At first it seemed that the house was "totaled" but the damage was not as bad as seen in those first impactful minutes. I mean, yes....its bad.... but it isn't a total loss.
My heart hurts for them. They have been good long time rentors but now they are out a home. Their Christmas has been changed. Their personal belongings lost (while their rental agreement states they must carry rental insurance... they let it lapse) I gave them $500 for a hotel & food for the night. On Monday, I will give them their last months rent as well as full security deposit.
I just hurt for them. I know what it is like to lose everything in a fire. The emotional, financial & mental toll it takes is more than .... "you have insurance, right?"
Can 2020 just STOP already with the shitshow please!
