11-year old Holli, makes 1200 masks for homeless
Meet Holli. Holli is an 11-year old 6th grader from Stone Mountain, Georgia. Back in March 2020, when Covid-19 forced her sewing class to shut down, Holli wanted a way to continue sharpening her sewing skills. Just then, a news broadcast featured a segment about a Facebook group that was dedicated to making masks for healthcare workers. Holli joined the group and began to use her sewing machine to make 250 masks for healthcare and essential workers. Soon after, the demand for masks in the healthcare community began to decrease. She then decided that she would shift her focus on an often-forgotten population, the homeless community.
After doing community service projects through her church, Berean Christian Church, she realizes that not everyone who is homeless is the same. There are many homeless people who work every day as an essential worker and require masks to enter buildings. Holli understood their plight wanted to do her part to give back. In the words of Holli, “Homeless people are just people, without a home.” Thanks to generous donations, Holli has made 580 masks for the homeless community. Her goal is 1200 to give to several organizations in metro Atlanta. Feel free to check out her story on Good Morning America, as well as several other news outlets.
