Alstrom Syndrome is a rare, multisystemic genetic disorder exibiting cone-rod dystrophy(early nystagmus, blindness), hearing loss, obesity, insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia, type 2 diabetes mellitus, dilated cardiomyopathy, and progressive hepatic and renal dysfunction.
Alstrom Syndrome is an autosomal recessive, single gene disorder caused by mutations in ALMS1 (Chr2p13), a novel gene of currently unknown molecular.
