100-Ton Challenge to Benefit Tucson Tourism/Hospitality Workers
 

Thank You for Helping Tucson Tourism Workers!

Thank you for donating a combined total of $8,450 to benefit five Tucson hospitality/tourism workers and their families.  These workers were furloughed or lost their jobs due to COVID-19’s financial impacts.

We are splitting the proceeds evenly among those workers and will provide checks to them on or before Dec. 21, 2020.  Simply put, we could not have done this without you and we are humbled by your generosity.

Individuals who work for several Tucson tourism-related businesses donated.  While no corporate funds were received, we thank leaders at the Arizona Lodging & Tourism Association, First Tee of Tucson, Madden Media, Pima County Attractions, Reid Park Zoo, Simpleview, the Southern Arizona Attractions Alliance, Visit Tucson and more for helping these families.

So many other individuals and local companies donated, as well.  Thank you.

To recap, Rick Vaughan, Matt Vaughan, Colin Buchanan and Brent DeRaad each completed the 100-Ton Challenge by lifting 200,000 lbs. each in a 24-hour period starting Thursday night, Dec. 10, and wrapping up Friday afternoon, Dec. 11.

The final 200,000 lbs. were lifted by Tucson tourism industry employees and their friends.  Thank you to Visit Tucson staff members Felipe Garcia, Luchie Javelosa, Meredith Lipscomb and Hope Smyth and their friends and family for lifting more than half of that total.  Visit Tucson board members Amber Harkin and Andrew Stegen contributed a significant amount of weight lifted, as well.
