Jason Barrette is my son, a father and a brother who is right now fighting for his life here at Vancouver General Hospital.
March 29.2016 Jason suffered a cardiac arrest and was found without a pulse . Paramedics revived him quickly but it is unknown how long he was deprived of oxygen to his brain. He was in a coma for two weeks and is now awake and making progress . Early on he surpassed the expectations of the neurologists and he continues to improve .These improvements and his strong will to survive has given us great hope and we will do all we can to give him every chance to beat this. What may seem like small steps are in fact great leaps.
Jason's recovery will be a long process but he has plenty of motivation. He is a single parent to 8 year old daughter Denae. A happy spirited little girl who has shown love for her Dad by frequent visits to his bedside where she entertains him with stories and jokes while she 'nurses' him.
Her favourite activities with her Dad are beachcombing at Jericho and cheering on the Canucks.
Jason worked in construction and Denae is proud of her Dad 's role in so many of the buildings and the skyline of this city. Being her Father is his greatest joy.
We are thankful for the basic medical coverage Canada provides. Unfortunately there are many progressive effective treatments that are not covered.
Our immediate concerns are for the support and care of Denae and making our home accessible forJason when he comes home.
The future care and education of Denae is of paramount importance.
We ask for your help.
