- Heather Firlotte.

For five years, Penny & Pound Theatre Productions has been touching the lives of young actors from Cambridge and beyond. With a commitment to offering participants the opportunity to take part in high-caliber, challenging theatrical productions, Penny & Pound strives to enhance the abilities of their performers and volunteers through a supportive and engaging environment.

The current global pandemic has affected theatres all across the world, and all of us at P&P have felt the effects firsthand. In March, Penny & Pound had just begun rehearsals for our summer musical, Sweeney Todd, starring a cast of thirty young performers, from ages 13-24. Unfortunately, the closures of the province due to COVID-19 forced the show to be rescheduled to a later date, abruptly ending the 2019/2020 season. Penny & Pound was left with no onstage offerings, as well as no income for future productions. Halloween this year is especially scary for the theatre community.

We find ourselves in a precarious position as we enter our 2021 season, which is set to begin in late Spring. The youth in our community have come to rely on Penny & Pound as a safe haven, as well as a creative outlet. We pride ourselves on supporting all young people, no matter their level of experience, race, sexual orientation, religion, gender identity, and more! All are welcome at P&P.

Donations given to this campaign will help fund our first show of the 2021 season, Louisa May Alcott's Little Women. As both Sweeney Todd (the last show of the 2019/2020 season) and The Addams Family Young@Part (the first show of the 2020/2021 season, and our first 'junior' production) have been canceled, Little Women currently has no financial backing.

As you sit down to watch our fun, online talent show, BOO-TUBE, please remember the youth who have no outlet and no way to express themselves due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Any little bit helps. We'll see you after the intermission!
