2015 Winter Deaflympics!

Donation protected
My name is Lauren Weibert and I, among a few others, have earned the honor to represent the United States for the upcoming Winter Deaflympics 2015 in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia.  The games will take place between March 28 and April 5, 2015.  I will compete in the new event Slopestyle as well as halfpipe and boardercross.

That's me, enjoying my first powder day after my knee surgery (Surgery done Dec 2013 and I was cleared to snowboard again Feb 24, 2014).

I need to raise at least $4,150 to cover funds for the Deaflympics (which will include international airfare, uniforms, room & board, food, etc).

I will donate any extra/unused money to other USA teammates and local charities.

A little about me:

I was born deaf due to genetics which is wild because my family has no recorded history of anyone else being deaf.

I live in Breckenridge, Colorado, a world-class ski resort where all kinds of athletes go (Olympians included!).  It's really nice having easy access to a ski resort!

My first few years living in Colorado were spent snowboarding competitively.  I did very well; I almost always ended up on the podium.  One particular competition that I am proud of is a slopestyle competition called Nikita Chikita that took place a few years ago at Brighton in Utah.  I placed 4th out of around 60 girls in the amatuer division (and I was the ONLY Deaf athlete!).

Over the years, competitions have become increasingly inaccessible to me as a Deaf woman.  That is why I am SO excited for a chance to compete in the Deaflympics!

This will be the first time in a long time that EVERYTHING will be visual to me and I will be able to understand everything that is happening.  This is such a huge deal to me.  I cannot hear when competitions start, how much time is left, whether practice is going on or the actual competition, etc.  Basically, I don't know what's going on from the registration all the way to awards.  Not only that, but I will also be able to communicate with fellow riders!  That has never happened before!  This will be a great experience for sure!

I am also a student working towards a Bachelors Degree in Sustainable Studies at the local college.  I am a part time student this semester so I can dedicate more time to preparing for the Deaflympics.

I have been snowboarding for 13 years and my current sponsors include: Roxy, 720 Boardshop (Denver), Rocky Mountain Coffee Roasters and D-Fly Apparel.

Going to the Deaflympics has always been a dream of mine and with your help, we can make it a reality!  Thank you for your support!

I also LOVE volunteering at the Aspen Camp of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing... here I am teaching the next generation of Deaf snowboarders!  I try to volunteer every year (missed last year due to torn knee) to give back and spread the love of snowboarding.  These two gals in this photo absolutely loved snowboarding and wouldn't stop raving about how fun it was!
