Eye Surgery Recovery Fund

Ilona Berger here,  from LAST Projects.  Ciriza and I worked together to assess her needs and create this Go Fund Me.  She currently has  limited vision and needs to stay off of screens as much as possible. 

Ciriza is a queer, Latina, multidisciplinary artist, musician, and birth doula.  Her cathartic performances and art objects have been seen in venues ranging from museums to a multitude of art spaces, including LAST. She is incredibly generous, both in her performance work and as a friend.

Ciriza has myopic degeneration, a lifelong,  incurable condition, which carries a high risk of vision loss.  Last week she had to undergo emergency treatment, to prevent catastrophic vision loss in her dominant eye. This event has  curtailed her ability to work this month and she is scheduled for cataract surgery on both eyes, the first in February and second in March.

Ciriza has central vision loss in one eye and the recent trauma to her dominant eye that has further impacted her field of vision   Cataract surgery won’t cure her condition but  is her best chance to stabilize and preserve her existing vision.

We want to raise $5000 to cover Ciriza's bills for the  recovery process from her recent eye emergency and the upcoming cataract surgeries. She won't be able to work and will have extremely limited vision. Ciriza needs the time and space to heal without worrying about paying her rent and basic costs.

$5000 will cover  rent, bills, groceries, and transportation to doctor appointments in Long Beach.

Ciriza will send a gift of a limited edition print by request to anyone that donates $200 or more.
