„Die Hoffnung auf dem Weg zu meinem alten ICH“

Feridun Durgut ist ein freundlicher, sympathischer junger Mann. Der 24-Jährige strahlt Lebensfreude und eine gute Portion Humor aus und dieser Eindruck bestätigt sich, sobald man sich mit ihm unterhält. Während eine gewisse Unbeschwertheit für andere Menschen seines Alters völlig normal ist, ist Feridun Durguts positive Lebenseinstellung nicht unbedingt selbstverständlich: im Januar 2015 – mit gerade mal Anfang 20 – brach er sich bei einem Autounfall drei Wirbel und verletzte sich somit das Rückenmark. Seitdem ist er Brustabwärts gelähmt und auf einen Rollstuhl angewiesen.

„Ich habe mir einfach vorher nie Gedanken gemacht, dass mir sowas passieren könnte. Warum auch – ich war ja jung und gesund! Als es dann passierte, brach für mich logischerweise erstmal die Welt zusammen. Ich wusste gar nicht, was ich mit meinem Leben jetzt anfangen sollte. Natürlich sind die körperlichen Einschränkungen das Schlimmste. Aber nach so einem Unfall ist wirklich nichts mehr wie es war. Man hat nicht auf dem Schirm, dass eben auch so wichtige Dinge wie die Arbeit oder das eigene Zuhause betroffen sind.“ So konnte Feridun Durgut nicht mehr zurück in die Wohnung, in der er bis zum Unfall mit seinen Eltern und seiner Schwester wohnte. „Da die Wohnung im 2. Stock lag, konnte ich nach dem langen Krankenhaus- und Reha-Aufenthalt nicht mal mehr nach Hause. Das war wirklich hart.“ Zählen konnte der Wolfsburger zum Glück auf seine Freunde, bei denen er solange wohnen durfte, bis eine neue Bleibe für Familie Durgut gefunden war: „Hier hatten wir wirklich Glück im Unglück. Unsere Nachbarn wollten gerade ihr Haus verkaufen und haben uns den Zuschlag gegeben. So mussten wir nicht wegziehen, sondern konnten sogar in unserer Straße wohnen bleiben.“ Nachdem das Haus barrierefrei umgebaut worden war, konnte Feridun mit seinen Eltern endlich wieder unter einem Dach leben.

Trotzdem dauerte es noch, bis er sich bereit fühlte, nach dem Umzug auch einen anderen wichtigen Bereich seines Lebens – die Arbeit – neu zu justieren. „Ich musste mir erstmal darüber klar werden, wie mein neues Leben nach dem Unfall aussehen sollte.“ Geholfen hat dabei auch die psychologische Betreuung in der Zeit nach dem Unfall. „Nicht nur die Gespräche, auch die Menschen, die ich im Reha-Zentrum kennengelernt habe, haben mir geholfen, neuen Lebensmut zu fassen. Die eigene Situation wirkt manchmal gar nicht mehr so schlimm, wenn man sieht, dass es anderen
Leuten noch viel schlechter geht: zum Beispiel weil sie mit noch gravierenderen Lähmungen leben müssen.

Dennoch fällt ihm die Teilhabe am Leben schwer.
Das Exoskelett wurde ihm in einer Klinik empfohlen, mit dem er wieder auf den Beinen stehen kann und sogar laufen kann. Das Skelett bringt ihn auf Augenhöhe mit seinen Mitmenschen.

Leider wurde der Antrag für das Exoskelett von seiner Krankenkasse abgelehnt. Es werden leider keine Anteile der Kosten übernommen.

„The hope on the way to my old ME"

Feridun Durgut is a friendly, sympathetic young man. The 24-year-old seems to enjoy his life and has a sense of humor, and this impression is confirmed as soon as you talk to him. While a certain jauntiness is completely normal for other people at his age, Feridun Durgut's positive attitude to life is not necessarily self evident: in January 2015 - just at the beginning of his twenties - he broke three vertebrae in a car accident and thus injured the spinal cord. Since then, he has been paralyzed to the breast and dependent on a wheelchair.

"I just never thought about anything like this, that could happen to me. Why even? I was young and healthy. When it happened, the world collapsed. I did not know what to do with my life then. Of course, the physical limitations are the worst. But after an accident like this,  nothing is like it was anymore. No one can imagine that even such important things like work or the own home is affected. "Thus Feridun Durgut could not go back to the flat where he lived until his accident with his parents and his sister. "Since the apartment was on the second floor, I could not even go home after the long hospital and rehabilitation stay. That was really hard. "Fortunately, the Wolfsburger could count on his friends, with whom he could live until a new place for family Durgut was found:" Here we were really lucky in the misfortune. Our neighbors just wanted to sell their house and gave it to us. So we did not have to move away, but could even stay in the same neighborhood. "After the house had been converted without barriers, Feridun and his parents could finally live under one roof again.

Nevertheless, it still took some time until he felt ready to adjust another important area of his life - the work - after the move. "I had to first get to know how my new life should look after the accident." The psychological support at the time after the accident also helped. "Not only the conversations, but also the people I have met in the rehabilitation center, have helped me to take a new courage to life. Your own situation sometimes does not look as bad when you see some people who have to deal with much worse: for example those who have to live with even more serious paralysis.

However, his participation in life is difficult.
The exoskeleton was recommended to him in a clinic, with which he can stand on his legs again and even can walk. The skeleton brings him to the same level as other people.

Unfortunately the application for the exoskeleton was rejected by his health insurance company. Not a single part of the costs will be covered from them.
