Send Sharlott to Broadway!

My name is Jessica Terrel and I want to start off by saying I am not a writer. With that being said, my family and I are from Perry, OK. Perry is a small close knit community of about 4600 people. My Mom, being one of those 4600 people, is a staple here in town, not because she holds any sort of seat on city council or because she owns a business, but because she is one of the friendliest, kindest and most genuine people around. Over the last couple of months she has had an incredible show of support from friends, family and acquaintances. My mom Sharlott had me when she was 20 years old (she’s now 52) and my little brother Rayden when she was 23. She worked 2 and 3 jobs at a time still barely making ends meet, but we never went hungry and always had a roof over our heads. We may not have had the nicest clothes or the latest trending toys everyone else had, but we certainly did not go without. Mom works for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.Mom has a love for scrapbooking, music of all genres, her Grandkids and people in general. Mother listens to 30’s 40’s and 50’s singers as well as watching musicals like My Fair Lady, The Music Man, Les Miserable to name a few. Mom especially enjoys having her grandkids over to do Christmas crafts, reading them books, making up little songs that have their name in it, showing up to ball games and cheer competitions and showing them how to cook! She is a natural born hostess and is always more than happy to have any and all get gatherings at her house. Mom’s favorite Holiday by far is Christmas. On 12/26 she starts the countdown to next year’s Christmas. She listens to the music year around!
In December of last year Mom started getting a pain in her right shoulder. She went to her doctor they told her to get a massage. The pain was slowly getting worse and starting to move down her right arm. Her doctor then suggested she get some physical therapy and chalked it up to being a pinched nerve. When that didn’t work by the end of March she couldn’t sleep, walk, stand or sit for hardly any length of time due to excruciating pain. On 4/7/2018 our lives were turned upside down. We found out the pain was caused from a Malignant Metastatic Spinal tumor that had grown into the nerve causing extreme pain and deterioration of her spine. After a Full body CT scan and one surgery to stabilize her spine and remove as much of the first tumor as possible we found out that there was a large tumor in her liver, on her lymph nodes, skull as well as several more tumors rapidly growing on her spin. Her Oncologist has said the cancer is very aggressive. After completing radiation, her oncologist advised against chemo the cancer was spreading to fast. Her Doctor gave her weeks to live. She is not able to go into work now and has flown through her PTO, but several of her co-workers at ODOT have banned together and donated their unused PTO to my mother so she can still continue to get a pay check. She hasn’t worked now for two months and there is still plenty of donated time for her. This has completely blown my mind. She is now receiving hospice services. Mother has been making her own funeral arrangements and tying up loose ends, somehow she is staying so positive through all of this! I do think she is just frustrated because there is so much she hasn’t done or seen in life, although she would never admit it.
My purpose for writing you is to try and get help. The number one thing my Mom has always wanted to do is go to NYC to see a Broadway Musical. I think we can raise the funds for airfare, a couple of nights in a hotel, cab fair, tickets for the show and food.  My goal is to get her there in the next 2 or 3 weeks while she is still strong enough to get around on her own pretty well. I will be bringing a wheel chair with me due to the extensive walking in NYC and I know the Subway will be almost impossible for her.  There are also medical bills piling up very quickly. The page I set up to keep my Mom’s family and friends updated on Facebook is called “Let them eat.”  Thank you for your support

with gratitude
