European Educational Journey

Hello, Friends and Neighbors!

Let me tell you a little about our son, William. He’s currently 15 years old and has historically been an excellent student bringing home straight “A’s”, for the most part. Finding himself on the principal’s list year after year and in the 8th grade BETA club. Now a freshman in high school, his classes are more challenging and he has risen to the challenge. He is an Order of the Arrow Boy Scout who’s just an eagle project away from Eagle Scout. He is also only one merit badge away from earning all three palms to go with that Eagle badge. Count them, Folks! That’s 35 Merit badges that he’s earned and working on the 36th!  He has earned the much coveted Timothy and the Meritorious awards in AWANA. Quite an accomplishment considering that our church only takes AWANA through sixth grade!

He has earned these things through hard work and dedication. He has made us very proud and has achieved more in his 15 years than I, myself, have in 55! When he becomes an adult, I have no doubts that he will be a productive and valued member of society and a leader among men.

Right now, he has a wondrous opportunity coming up. One of his teachers is planning a trip to Europe in June of 2020. It will be a fantastic and fascinating trip for him to learn much about our own American history as they will visit many historic sites. On a 10 day spree, they will start in Berlin and visit Checkpoint Charlie and many other historic sites. Then on to Warsaw Poland to see the Warsaw ghetto among other spots. Then to Krakow where they will visit the ruins of the concentration camps at Auschwitz and Birkenau and then on to Prague to learn more of the plight of the Jewish people in a war torn land.

They will have so much to learn and see that I can’t possibly list it all here. But I believe that when they return, they will have an all new appreciation for what our brave men did over there and a whole new respect for our Greatest Generation.

Here is our dilemma; with the cost of the travel package, as well as the list of extras that he’s been advised to carry with him and a modest bit of spending cash for memorabilia, tips and food, the total cost will be over 4000 dollars. With his mother and I both working, it’s proven to be all we can do just to keep our own bills paid. At the end of the bills, there is no extra for travel. Living in a mobile home and driving old used vehicles, we are already living as modestly as possible but as any parent, we want more for our child than what we have.

We ask for your help in ensuring that this well deserving child not miss out on an opportunity of a lifetime because money was just too much of a hurdle.

Thank you!
