I am Stephanie Apone, the mother of 17 year old Bernadette Flowers. Bernadette was a most beautiful, loving, caring, funny and amazing young lady who endured so much pain and suffering. She did it all with such grace and strong spirit. I am proud and honored to have been allowed to be her mother.
On January 11, 2013, Bernadette woke up ill one morning and was never the same since. It took 9 months of rushing her to ER's and doctors and specialists for them to find out Bernadette had a brain tumor/glioma deep inside her left temporal lobe. From October of 2013 until July 2015 they watched and waited as her symptoms progressively got worse. I had to leave my job on October 2, 2013 in order to stay home and take care of my daughter, as her symptoms were too scary to allow her to be alone. For the past 4 school years she was unable to attend regular school.
After 5 years and 7 months of battling not only brain cancer but also, stage IV intestinal endometriosis and intractable epilepsy and turns out most likely at the end had lymphoma, on July 25, 2018 my baby-girl went home to Jesus. During her entire illness she kept a brave face and strong spirit and faith. She worried more about others than herself. She always found something to smile about even in the midst of horrible pain and symptoms. She loved her family and friends deeply and left a most wonderful imprint on everyone she met. There are no words to describe how much her precious soul is missed and loved! My husband, Dan Apone and myself would like to thank everyone for all your love, prayers and support throughout these years! After I've had some time to grieve and heal I hope and pray to take all I've learned and experienced with Bernadette and make a difference in other children's lives battling this most horrible disease.
