Erin Murphy fire fund.

It is with heavy hearts that we confirm that lifelong Malibu resident Erin Murphy was among the many of us who lost our homes in the recent Woolsey Fire.

The most important thing is that Erin is safe. She was out of town, visiting her daughter Sarah and celebrating her granddaughter Rylin’s birthday.

But because she was away, she was unable to save any of her belongings.

Not only has everything she owned been reduced to ash, but she has lost her sole source of income, as she rented out a room to pay for her expenses.

Now without a home or resources, Erin will need assistance in the aftermath of this devastating event and is at the mercy of whatever friends and family have to spare. We will do the best we can, but we will not be able to cover the costs we face. Any donation would be greatly appreciated.

Your donations will help Erin with basic things like shelter, food, clothing, and gas. Anything helps. Erin is rebuilding her life from the ground up. She has an amazing attitude, and with support from friends, family and our community, she will get through this.

Erin Murphy’s home was always open. Throughout the years, she had provided a home for her children, her niece and nephew, her granddaughters, and to many others when they were in need.

Erin’s home was full of love and life. It held the memories of the generations she raised and the history of her family before her. Photographs documenting the lives of her five children, her nieces and nephews, her granddaughters, and her relatives and friends were on every shelf. Paintings done by her grandfather, family friends, and adored artists hung on every wall. Musical instruments, books, and memorabilia that had accumulated over a lifetime filled every room.

It was the homestead, the gathering place for birthdays and holidays, the place where family, friends, and neighbors returned to be warmed by Erin’s welcoming smile and generous hospitality.

Erin Murphy was born in Malibu in 1951. As a young woman, Erin built a home at the top of Winding Way West and raised her family there. Her street De Butts Terrace was renamed Murphy Way a few years ago after its longtime residents Erin Murphy and her family. More recently, Erin moved to the hills behind Malibu. The Woolsey Fire has now decimated her home in the Seminole Springs neighborhood.

Erin had five children: Heather, Alyssa, Sarah, Caitlin, and Conor. She also raised her niece Johanna and nephew Sebastian after their mother passed away when they were young. She has also been very involved in the lives of her granddaughters Rylin and Josie. As a longtime member of the Malibu community, she has been loved by generations of Malibuites.

After more than 60 years of living in Malibu, Erin is no stranger to the threat of wildfires and has evacuated with her most beloved possessions in the past, grateful to return to a home still standing. Tragically, the Woolsey Fire came at a time when she was away and unable to save anything.

As she grieves the loss of her family history, she must also face the difficulty of finding a place to live as well as the means to rebuild her life. Please consider a donation that will help Erin with her day to day needs, and to help put a roof over her head after she provided a home to so many others.
