Erin Enomoto Moore Memorial Gift

Donation protected
It is with much sadness that we must announce that Erin Akemi Enomoto Moore passed away on Monday, May 27th, at the age of 47, after a six-month battle with Stage IV Colon Cancer.  Erin grew up in Half Moon Bay, California, the daughter of Ron and Nancy Yano Enomoto.  She graduated from the University of California Davis in 1994, where she was an active member of Kappa Alpha Theta.  At UC Davis, Erin met her husband, Gerald “Jerry” Moore.  Erin and Jerry moved to Acworth, Georgia, shortly after marrying in 2000.

Erin’s passion for helping others was obvious to everyone who knew her.  While she began her career as a social worker, Erin found her true gift as a Special Needs Preschool Teacher, helping countless children thrive at Cobb County’s McCall Primary School.  She was an active volunteer at Pickett’s Mill Elementary, which her and Jerry’s two sons attended, and also enjoyed supporting her sons’ many activities with Boy Scout Troop Number 700.  Erin’s greatest joy was being a wife and mother, yet her dedication and kindness to her friends, students, and others were boundless and a true inspiration.

Erin is survived by her husband, Cobb County Magistrate Judge Gerald Moore, her 14 year old son “Big”, her 11 year old son “Little”, her mother, Nancy Yano Enomoto, her sister and brother-in-law Mindy and Bobby Connors and their two sons, her brother and sister-in-law Mike and Cathy Choi Enomoto and their two sons, her Grandmother Yano, her in-laws Abe and Rosalyn Friedman, and a large extended family and group of friends.

Her family and friends would like to honor Erin's memory by making a gift in her name to the Special Needs Preschool Community of Acworth.  We hope that, in lieu of flowers or other donations, you will consider making a donation to this fund so that we can continue to support Erin's love of teaching special needs preschool children by donating supplies, toys, or playground equipment to the special needs preschool at McCall Primary School and/or to Acworth's Horizon League for Special Needs Athletes.

UPDATE:

Thank you to everyone who has donated to Erin's fund.  We so appreciate your generous donations, which have exceeded anything we imagined.  As one of Erin's best friends, I am managing the fund and donations.  I have been working with Thomas Farrell and Kelly Union, the Principal and Bookkeeper at McCall Primary School, to ensure the donations are used in the best manner possible.  They have obtained quotes from Cobb County approved contractors to install large sun umbrellas over the playground equipment at the school so that the children will be able to play without burning themselves on the hot playground equipment, and to help keep the children from getting  overheated or sunburned.  This is particularly appreciated given the 90 plus degree days we have been experiencing since school has been back in session.  Based on the size of the playground, the purchase price for the umbrellas with installation is slightly over $11,000.  The umbrellas will be placed in such a way that they can be permanent fixtures at the school and will not be affected by any future playground renovations.   All remaining money, including a few donations that were sent directly to McCall Primary School, will go towards purchasing games and activities for the special needs preschool classrooms for those days when the weather requires indoor recess.

I will be responsible for withdrawing the Go Fund Me donations and transferring them to McCall Primary School so that they may begin this project as soon as possible.  The funds will go into the school's SPLOST (Special Purpose) budget to ensure that they go to the correct project and so that the purchase and installation of the umbrellas is not subject to sales tax.

After viewing the playground and seeing teachers holding umbrellas over their heads due to the lack of shade, I'm sure the children and teachers will be very excited to have these huge umbrellas installed.  And, I know Erin would be so pleased.  The family has  tried to write personal thank you notes to all of the donors for this fund.   However, we haven't been able to identify everyone's connection with Erin or their addresses.  If you have not received a personal, handwritten note, please know that everyone in the family is so appreciative of your generosity towards this gift we wanted to make in Erin's name.
