Erin Damaska Brain Cancer Treatment

Just over a month after the birth of our daughter Piper, Erin suffered a major seizure. She was home alone with the kids, but fortunately was able to alert me that something was wrong  just prior to the seizure. I called 911 and she was taken to the hospital by ambulance. After further evaluation, a tumor slightly larger than a golf ball was discovered in her brain. Erin had surgery on December 26th to remove the bulk of the tumor and further testing would reveal it to be cancerous.

After surgery, Erin was not able to move the left side of her body. She spent approximately two weeks recovering in the hospital and two weeks in a rehabilitation facility where she regained her ability to walk. She currently continues her therapy at an outpatient facility twice a week.

We decided to have Erin's cancer treatment at MD Anderson in Houston. Erin, our 3 year old Connor, newborn Piper, Erin's mother, and myself moved into an apartment in Houston for 6 weeks. Erin received daily radiation and chemotherapy during this time. She also continued her physical and occupational therapy at MD Anderson.

We returned home on April 1st. We will have monthly visits with her doctors and she will continue chemotherapy 5 days a month for 12 months.

During this time there has been considerable expenses for our family. Medical bills, prescription costs, travel and lodging expenses, increased need for childcare, etc.
