Future Nurses Scholarship Fund
The Estelle R. Ford Future Nurses Scholarship exists to encourage excellence in nursing, character, leadership and community service in the Central Massachusetts area.
Our story begins with a woman like no other, pictured above, Estelle. She was someone who always thought of others needs before her own. She took the greatest pleasures from the simplest of things throughout her life. Estelle was born in 1921 and received her degree in nursing from the Heyward Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. She then served as a Navy registered nurse in Boston, helping heal wounded soldiers during World War II. Estelle went on to work as a private nurse at the Henry Heyward Hospital before beginning her longtime career as a high school nurse in her hometown of Gardner. Throughout the duration of her life, she influenced and inspired many of her peers and students to enter into the medical field. She even started the "Future Nurses Club" at Gardner High School for students interested in pursuing nursing as a career.
Estelle passed on June 19th, 2016, but lives on in the hearts and minds of the Gardner community. There are countless stories of her selflessness and her kindness that have impacted everyone who knew her. Her compassion and love for helping others is what inspired us to start this scholarship fund. In her name, we continue to inspire and help others the way she had done so many times in the past.
The scholarships are the primary focus of this organization and will be awarded to second (2nd) third (3rd) or fourth (4th) year nursing students who demonstrate excellence in academics, practical nursing, moral character and community service.
The purpose of our GoFundMe page is to raise money to give to a current nursing student who is determined to pursue a career in the medical field but also someone who is passionate about helping others and giving back to their community. Any kind of donation is appreciated and encouraged, please help us to support our future nurses!
