My name is Carly, I am 36 yrs old and I am a tetraplegic.
Sadly while on holiday last August, I miss judged the depth of a pool, dove in and broke my neck having hit my head on the bottom. I suffered a spinal cord injury (SCI) at vertebrae C5 / C6 and I'm paralysed from the waist down. I also have poor hand function and need help with most tasks.
I have a wonderful husband, am the mother of two lovely boys ages 4 and 8 and worked as a part time accountant. My husband and children are my whole world and have kept me strong and focused through the hard times.
I am currently recovering at Stoke Mandeville Spinal Injuries Centre who provide intense rehab for SCI sufferers. I have been here 5 months and I'm working hard to gain strength to get home to my lovely family at the end of June!
To help me be as independent as I can with my young boys, friends and family are raising funds to buy me a set of power assisted wheels. For tetra's like me, self propelling your wheelchair is hard work and quickly tiring. These wheels have motors within them that aid me to push using the slightest touch! These will enable me to take my children to the park, go for a walk in the woods or even to the seaside with ease!
Many friends and family have approached me recently with amazing ideas to help raise funds for my wheels and other equipment that will help me live life to the full! Therefore I've set up this gofundme account so that whether it's sky diving, golf tournaments, cake sales or bootcamp, this link can be used to make a donation to my cause!
Any support you can offer by donating would be so gratefully received by my husband, children and I. You'll be contributing to many fun days out together and to helping me feel complete with my family once again.
