Enrichment Voyage - Semester at Sea
Thank you for your interest in my Study Abroad excursion!
For the first time in either of our lives, my mother and I will leave the country. This December, we will travel on a 25-day Enrichment Voyage with the Semester at Sea program based at University of Virginia. While we're at sea, I'll be able to take courses in English, history, culture, meditation, and more! I'll also be immersed in Spanish language for the entire month, with diverse cultural textures at my fingertips.
This trip will broaden my perspective and afford me the opportunity to help others along the way. During my voyage, I plan to attend several volunteer excursions at international non-profit organizations. I will take supplies to the children there, play soccer with them, and possibly lift their spirits during my brief time in their towns.
My journey begins in Nassau, Bahamas on December 8th and travels to ports-of-call that include Montego Bay, Jamaica; Cartagena, Colombia; Colon, Panama; Guayaquil, Ecuador; Callao, Peru; Manta, Ecuador; Puntarenas, Costa Rica; Corinto, Nicaragua; Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala; and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico before finally docking in San Diego, California on January 2nd.
While my meals are included on the ship, this trip is rather expensive. I must pay for each excursion, cover the cost of the pre-departure stay, have the funds for meals off the ship, and ground transportation is also often necessary. In addition to this GoFundMe page, I am selling art and running a lemonade stand twice per month until I leave. I really appreciate your support in making this opportunity a reality.
I attend a school, where my peers travel the world all the time. I don't even understand the magnitude. They talk about things I can't even imagine. A chance like this, just once, would put me on the same playing field with them. It would make me a citizen of the world.
