Mehrnoosh's dream to be an engineer

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Tracy and I'm an Australian who is raising money for my soon-to-be sister-in-law, Mehrnoosh to escape the struggles and inequality women face daily in Iran.

The reality for women in Iran

Mehrnoosh is 26 and lives with her family in Iran. She completed a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering three years ago and dreams of working as an engineer.

However she lives in a society that actively discriminates against women in many areas including the workplace.

Sadly, women in Iran are often excluded from jobs purely based on their gender and this has been true for Mehrnoosh. She has been trying hard to secure work and begin her career but continues to be blocked from doing so. As I was lucky enough to grow up, study and work in Australia and now London, I can't imagine how this level of inequality must feel.

No woman should be denied the same rights and opportunities as men and I want Mehrnoosh to have the same freedoms to study and work that I have had. I want to help Mehrnoosh realise her dreams by helping her move to Australia and study at the university I graduated from - the University of Tasmania.

What we'll use the money for

Mehrnoosh has been offered a place in the Master of Professional Engineering (Specilisation) - Civil and Structural course in this year's intake.

Her high degree marks have earned her a shortened course from three years to two and a small scholarship.

Because of your generousity we are so close to paying for Mehrnoosh's first year (just over $22,000 + $1,300 health cover + the almost 7% in fees on this site)

We have raised more than $21,000:

- just over $16, 000 from an anonymous donor
- the rest from this campaign site

ONLY $1600 LEFT: We are now aiming to raise another $1, 600 which will secure Mehrnoosh's place in the course.

The total course fees for two years plus health cover is (AUD)$50, 745. For now we are focusing on paying for the first year.

This is a lot of money which Mehrnoosh and her family just don't have.

We are hoping to raise this money by February!

It would allow Mehrnoosh to accept her place in this masters course starting in February 2017 and live with my sister in Tasmania while she studies. Once she graduates, Mehrnoosh would like to work in Australia as an engineer and give back to the community and economy which is facing a shortage of engineers - particularly female engineers.

For now Mehrnoosh continues her English studies in preparation and applying for (any and every) jobs non-stop in the hope she can save to support herself.

Thank you!

Mehrnoosh, her family and I are so grateful for any help to raise this money. Mehrnoosh should not be stopped from working hard in her chosen field just because she is a woman who also doesn't have access to this amount of money. Thank you for your generosity!
