I was diagnosed with cancer two years ago. Devastated, I did not want to be defined by my illness & so only those close to me have been aware that I have cancer. You would not look at me & see a typical cancer patient. I sought help from my beloved Nurse Practitioner, in Ojai, who facilitated my treatment with medical marijuana. This bought me time & allowed me to live a " normal" life. I had no side effects, but for the boosting of my immune system ( a good thing). The cancer was stable & the CO kept the cancer from growing or metastasizing. 6 weeks ago at a follow up with Deborah, she informed me that the tumor had grown, that my body must have become accustomed to the CO & there wasn't anything more she could do. She referred me to UCLA & an appointment was scheduled. Chemotherapy & radiation were not anything I had considered as I know they do nothing to support the body. But I was resigned that I had no options. As I was waiting for my UCLA appointment ( which I might tell you, was not for another 6 weeks), I received another call from my NP that she had discovered the Cancer Center of Healing in Irvine & thought I would want to see the integrated medical professionals at that facility. Another client of hers had told Deborah that her husband has been a patient there & was doing well. I called & an appointment was set ( a week later) While I had originally planned to retire at the end of July, I was now forced to take an early & unplanned retirement from my work as an Esthetician, last week, so I could begin treatment. The Center does not provide conventional cancer treatment, but strives to offer non-invasive integrated treatments designed to meet the individual needs of their patients...& cancer patients come from all over the U S to seek care...WITHOUT DAMAGING THEIR HEALTH. I met with my doctor, Dr Bita, last Thursday & a treatment care plan was developed. Now, add to this, our home began escrow 5/31 ( 1 1/2 weeks before I got the unhappy news) & closes Friday. We had bought an RV to begin traveling as my husband, Bob, & I would both be retired. The home still selling, the RV prepared for readiness...but the catch is we have to take care of my medical issues first. I had my first IV treatment last Friday, & now will be seen 5 days a week, for IV & other treatments ( that are popular in Europe but not recognized by the mainstream medical professionals here in the US) for at the very least, 4 weeks. Anthem Blue Cross insurance covers my MD visits & a few labs, but each day is running me $1300. + out of pocket. I have drained my retirement money & am now on a fixed income...which isn't enough to begin to cover the desperately needed treatment cost. I urge you all to visit the online site, Cancer Center of Healing, & keep an open mind. This is my last hope! I have never asked for money & always been self sufficient, but I am out of ideas Please, whatever amount you might be able to donate will help me live a good quality of life for whatever time I have left. Bob & I thank you in advance & are grateful that you are taking the time to consider my needs. Donita Gibbs
