Emotional Support Dog for Matt

Hi everyone! Thanks for taking a moment to stop by. My name is Amy (Dungan) Hale and my son suffers from anxiety and major depressive disorder. It's been a long, hard road. As some of you may know, in October of last year it all came crashing down. After a heart-wrenching breakdown, he agreed to go to an inpatient treatment facility. Watching them take him away was the hardest thing I've ever done as a mother. But it was also a learning experience that helped us figure out the correct medications and dosages he needed, as well as some coping mechanisms once he was out in the world again. He's made a lot of progress since then and we are immeasurably thankful for all the love, prayers, and support we've received during this time. We are starting to get him to a place where self-harm and suicide are no longer constant drum beats in his head. Part of his current treatment includes medications, coping techniques, and counseling. It was also recommend that we get him an emotional support animal. He was excited at the idea, as he loves animals and the thought of having his own dog has brought him some hope and joy in condition that is often void of such emotions.
Have you ever had a rough day or felt unappreciated, and then came home to a pet that thought you were everything and loved you unconditionally? The comfort that brings can be soothing to many. To someone with anxiety and depression, it can be life saving.
Our dilemma is that registration for the service animal, not to mention the initial care, first vet visits, obedience training, etc. can be expensive. We've looked at adopting a rescue, and found a couple that seem to be a good fit. We'd like that to be our first option. He'd love to save a dog that will in turn help save him, but most of the adoption fees we are seeing are almost as much as buying some pure breeds. So we are asking for your help, anything you can spare, so that we can get him this dog as soon as possible and further his healing process.
Thank you for your time, consideration, and prayers.
