Emmett’s Journey and Team EZ:

Emmett Zorr
of Harrisburg, SD was born in 2011 and already has faced more health related challenges than most adults will face in an entire lifetime but yet he has shown unmatched strength and courage.

Emmett was born at only 24 weeks gestation and spent nearly 6 months in the hospital before going home.  At birth, Emmett weighed just one pound & eight ounces and was only 11.5 inches long.  While in the hospital, Emmett underwent extensive testing and procedures as well as a heart surgery to keep him alive.  But even as a baby, Emmett showed he was a fighter and he survived.

At the age of 3, Emmett was diagnosed with cancerous Rhabdomyosarcoma after a lump developed under his right eye.  Chemo treatments began in Sioux Falls in December 2014.  In February 2015, Emmett traveled to Chicago to begin special radiation treatments which would continue regularly through April.  The combination of chemo and radiation was helping as his tumor shrank considerably.  As of August of 2015, Emmett was doing well and life was getting somewhat back to normal.  Once again, Emmett had survived.

About a year later In June of 2016, swelling returned to Emmett’s right cheek and it was determined that another cancerous tumor had formed.  So Emmett started chemo treatments again but the tumor continued to grow.  So on October 27th, Emmett had a fourteen hour surgery in Chicago in an attempt to remove the tumor and reconstruct his cheek.  Doctors feared that Emmett would lose his right eye and explained before the surgery that Emmett might not survive the procedure.  But this 5 year fighter came through again with a successful surgery where surgeons removed all of the tumor that was visible and they also saved his eye.  After a long recovery period in Chicago, Emmett did again return home.  As there is still a chance of small cancer cells remaining, Emmett is now continuing chemo treatments in Sioux Falls.

The story of Emmett’s journey and how he has fought and won every battle has been compelling and touched the hearts of many.  When Emmett has had time to just be a little boy, he loves to watch basketball and particularly his older brother Ace who plays for the Harrisburg Tigers high school team.  That Tiger team has adopted Emmett as their honorary team captain for their 2016-17 season.  The team’s slogan for the season is "Team EZ” to honor Emmett.  The team has also focused on fundraising efforts to help the Zorr family in regard to Emmett’s extensive medical expenses.

So we would like to invite you to become part of Team EZ.  Your monetary gift no matter how small or large will further aid the Zorr family.  So please consider a gift today!  And also please share Emmett’s story with others to provide them the opportunity to help.

Emmett has won every battle so far in his short life but his health struggles have not ended.  Please consider supporting this amazing little boy.
