Emmett Till Mock Trial NMHS

In the 2016-2017 school year students at North Marion High School in Farmington West Virginia conducted a Mock Trial using the original transcript of the 1955 trial of J.W. Milan and Roy Bryant accused killers of 14 year old Emmett Till.  At the invitation of Bill Stalnaker Till's cousin Wheeler Parker Jr. and his wife Marvel attended the trial held in the school's Auditorium. In the spring of 2016 Stalnaker and his students were invited to Mississippi to perform the trial in the Sumner County Courthouse, the site of the original trial.   The trial is scheduled to take place the week of April 15-21 2017. Actual dates for the Sumner County Courthouse are April 17th 18 tho and 19 th 2017.  Students will work with local students and residents of the Delta region where the original crime took place. Conducting workshops and a complete performance of the trial will provide a living history lesson for all of those involved.  This is a tremendous opportunity for students from North Marion and the Delta Region.   Funds will provide travel, food, and lodging for students and chaperones.
