Emma's Tumor Fund

Donation protected

Our daughter Emma lost her first tooth last year. She is now five and has lost at least four teeth. It seemed that she was losing her teeth at a rapid rate. So my husband and I made plans to find a her dentist. Shortly after, we noticed a lump on the roof of her mouth and naturally became concerned. She had her first dentist appointment  in our hometown (Cocoa Beach) and an x-ray and we were told she had a decaying tooth and referred us to an oral surgeon in Rockledge. The oral surgeon then referred us to another oral surgeon that specializes with children in Titusville. This particular dentist appointment was traumatic. My daughter broke her femur just 3 weeks before we noticed this lump. At this point my daughter was overwhelmed with any doctor visits. So naturally she was terrified when this Titusville dentist was poking and proding her mouth with shiny tools. This "children dentist" became frustrated with my daughter's frightened behavior and shook my daughter's head as he yelled at her to "Stop it!" Like you would to a wild animal.  We weren't able to get an x-ray because of this man's impatience and lack of power when we told him we would not leave the room. We understood that this was this particular dentist office policy but was uncomfortable with how fragile her leg was. After seeing what he did to my daughter in front of me, God only knows what this man was capable of doing behind closed doors. This dentist planned on removing this "decaying tooth" without an x-ray and called it a day. My husband and I discussed seeing a new dentist after we left. Finding a dentist is draining!  Some of the factors you need to consider are; Do they take take your insurance, take children, accepting new patients, is an oral surgeon?, etc. It was quite the stressful process. After a tiring week, we finally found one in Vero beach and made the appointment. Because of the patient/loving staff we found out that the decaying tooth was a result from missing bone structure in her upper jaw.  She than referred us yet to ANOTHER oral surgeon (down the street). After more x-rays/CT scan we found out that the missing bone and decaying teeth were a result of a growing mass inside her cheek. This oral surgeon then referred us to a friend that specializes with Emma's situation all the way in...Jacksonville. After a biopsy we found out that our daughter has a tumor and that it is indeed benign. We had to wait three more weeks before surgery and watched this tumor grow and deform our 5 year old's face.  On March 14, 2017 Emma had a successful surgery. The surgeon was able to remove the tumor and had to remove two permenant teeth. We are now required to bring her to an oral surgeon (closer to home, thank goodness!) once a month for a year to make sure that the tumor doesn't grow back. The unknown is scary and so are medical finances. My husband and I accepted the fact that this situation is out of our control and are firm believers that this is in God's hands. We're emotionally exhausted and our Emma is beyond petrified when taking any medication or doctor visits. Before she took medicine (for colds) and went to her pediatrician with no fear. Since her incidents, with just this year alone, she has become paraniod and I don't blame her. As parents we want our kids to be happy and healthy but at times we're unfortunately overwhelmed with financial obligations. Which is why we have created this "Go Fund Me" account, any donations for our sweet angel would be extremely grateful. Every little bit helps. Thank you and God bless.
