Emily's Semester Exchange in Madrid

This Spring, I have been given an opportunity of a lifetime: to spend my last semester of undergraduate abroad in Madrid, Spain. The University of Central Arkansas has nominated me to spend my semester at the King Juan Carlos University, with concentrated studies in Marketing. While there, I plan to launch my fashion blog potentially leading to my dream career as a marketing influencer. By using my weekends and time off from being a full-time student to visit the fashion capitals of the world, immersing myself in fashion weeks in Paris, London, and Milan to blog, learn, and grow from these experiences.
My time at the University of Central Arkansas has been an incredible three and a half short years that have taught me so much. As a freshman in 2014, I became a Campus Manager for South By Sea where I focused on the promotion and growth of the company throughout the University. In 2014, upon election as wardrobe chair for Alpha Sigma Alpha where I served by enhancing the chapter's overall appearance, which collaborated with my role at South By Sea. I was the first individual to bring South By Sea to the University of Central Arkansas campus. Since then, I have grown the company here and receive monthly residuals from the sales of eleven different organizations within UCA. This summer, I was granted the opportunity to hold an Internship with South By Sea in Nashville, where I shadowed their National Sales Director for a seven-week period. While I was maintaining my job as a Campus Manager with South By Sea, I began as a stylist for HipSway Boutique in Conway, Arkansas in December 2014. Being passionate about fashion and retail, I quickly gained promotion as a Keyholder, Senior Keyholder, Buyer (where I attended three Fashion Markets and purchased for three separate stores), and Supervisor in October of 2016. Leaving the previous position at HipSway for my summer internship with South By Sea, I currently maintain my involvement with HipSway by executing store flips on a weekly basis as the store's Visual Merchandiser, as well as assist in planning store photoshoots and purchasing.
Alongside building my experience and skill sets as a young business professional and being a full-time college student, I have maintained my involvement on UCA's campus by staying active as a member in Alpha Sigma Alpha, where I am currently serving the position of Public Relations Chair. I oversee and maintain my chapters Social Media across various platforms, assist in planning and executing our sorority's multiple recruitment events, and coordinate photo shoots for content shared throughout the year. In addition to being a senior succeeding in my studies in the Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) degree program, I am currently serving as President for the I&E club on campus in order to enhance my leadership and further my skills. I host bi-monthly meetings engaging club members with business leaders within the community, and promote awareness of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship program throughout campus.
I am raising money to finance my tuition abroad in Spain through the University of Central Arkansas and to purchase the photography equipment and tools to prepare and professionally execute my blog and create captivating content. This funding will also support my traveling and living expenses while I am attending school full-time, assist in building my experiences out of Madrid to gain a cross-cultural experience, expand my resume as a young business professional, and develop an international strategic understanding of marketing, while becoming an influencer abroad.
