Emily's Car AC Repair

We need your help. Our daughter, Emily, who is about seven months pregnant, has traveled across the country with her seven small children, in an older van, to spend some rare family time with us.
Traveling with a family that size is expensive and not really in their budget, but they made this a priority and have made sacrifices to make it happen.
They lost the AC in the van the first day of the trip, then got stuck in a small town about 200 miles East of Albuquerque when the van broke down. Thank goodness an honest, compasionate mechanic was able to get them on the road again, but without AC.  They made it to our home in Southern Utah all right, but are in desperate need of a new compressor to repair the AC.  Of course she wants the van's AC repaired as soon as possible, but definately before she heads back to Georgia in a few weeks.
She's a tough former marine who has lived in Vegas and served in Iraq.  She can handle the heat and would never ask for help.  The children ranging in age from one year old to nine are a different story. They need some help.
Update: Thank you to everyone who has helped. I'm overwhelmed.  It looks like the repair will be $1600+, so even though it's going to cost more than I anticipated, we're over half way there already.
