Emergency Lifesaving Surgery for Gus Gus

Donation protected
This weekend, we found ourselves in the emergency room making the decision to undergo a lifesaving surgery for our sweet boy, Gus Gus.

Gus Gus is our 5 year old chocolate lab retriever mix who was rescued from Big Dog Rescue Ranch in South Florida in 2017. Since my husband and I don't have kids yet, he is truly our baby, the center of our world and we have fully embraced him as a member of our family. All who have met him love being around him including non-dog people because he doesn't slobber, jump, bite and rarely barks! He has never met a dog he doesn't like and loves being around dogs as well as people. He's frequently the dog saying hello to every human at the dog park, then affectionately leading the other dogs in a loop around the dog park! He is incredibly cuddly and is a gem as my first dog - my husband, who grew up with dogs, says that Gus is the most cuddly and most well-behaved dog he's ever had. He is a joy to all.

Gus is currently in the hospital recuperating from a difficult past few days - he vomited 8 times due to what the doctors learned was 15 rock-like pieces and some plastic. We haven't found any clues in the house, and we only take him outside on a leash, so learning this information did come as a surprise to us.

In a span of a few days we have spent $7000.00 not covered by insurance on the x-rays, blood work, IV, endoscopy, hospital stays, medicine and surgery and his journey is still ongoing - likely, this cost will increase as we have not gotten our bill yet for his current liver infection, which was a complication from the rocks obstruction his liver/gallbladder area. We spent $1500 on Saturday into Sunday and then $5500 on the endoscopy, surgery and re-admittance into the hospital in the past couple days.

If you have met Gus or if you're a dog person and understand the pain of a sick or injured pet, you know how emotionally and financially debilitating the bills can be.

If you can give a donation - even something small - we'd be most appreciative of your generosity. While our bills are $7000+, we have set the goal for raising half of the funds. As you can imagine or if you've had ER visits unfortunately happen in your family, paying for Gus' hospital bills was completely unexpected and not budgeted for, hence depleting a lot of our savings. This was truly a lifesaving procedure in the sense that if we waited any longer than we did, the obstructions would've been fatal.

As a young married couple, we have a lot of student loan undergraduate debt we are still paying off and had hoped to buy our first home this year - yet, these bills are significantly setting us back from having that goal happen now that we've had to dig into our savings.

Thank you for your kindness. We are so grateful for all of our friends and family's support!
