Emergency medical expenses for Shay the stray.

Donation protected
Meet Shay.

Shay was found on Saturday 11/9/19 around 9:30 pm wandering in the middle of the road in Lake Lynn, PA. I almost hit her as it was dark and I didn't see her at first. I stopped and put my 4-ways on to check for a collar or any signs of an owner. While doing so another vehicle coming the opposite way almost hit her as well. My friend and I couldn't leave her with the chance of getting hit so we loaded her into my vehicle and stopped at several houses on the way home while also contacting several people who lived in the area. The location she was found was surrounded by woods and no immediate houses nearby.  Nobody recognized her or knew of her owners. I decided to take her home and create a FB post in hopes of finding her owner or owners which was shared hundreds of times and to several lost and found sites with no success.  Now, about Shay.

I took Shay to Cheat Lake Animal Hospital to be evaluated for medical conditions I knew she would need treatment for. She was scanned and it was detected that she was not micro chipped.
Shay is a pure bred German Shepherd female. She has recently had a litter of puppies or less likely a false pregnancy. She is still lactating and having bloody discharge. Prior to the vet I did take her back to the location I found her and walked with her throughout the area in hopes that if her puppies were in the woods she would lead me to them. Our attempts were unsuccessful and I thought maybe she was just in heat but after our visit we learned this is not the case. She seems to have had other litters in the past as well. Most desperately, Shay has extensive dental damage that was caused by some sort of blunt force trauma. Her front canine tooth is dangling from her mouth still attached to the gum. We are unsure of any damage that may have been done to her jaw which may also possibly need repaired. We are also unsure of any of any other damage to her teeth at this time. These things will be determined once she is put to sleep and thoroughly examined along with x-rays. This is where you all come in. Our hope is to raise enough money to get Shay as healthy as possible so that she may find her forever home. I have requested an estimate from Cheat Lake Animal Hospital for the cost to have her vaccinated, Spayed, and her dental procedure done. It is super important to get this procedure done as soon as possible so that no further damage is done and help protect her from any possible infections. They would like to do both procedures at once so they only have to put her to sleep one time.
You can help by sharing this fundraiser, by donating any amount you may have to spare, by simply praying that we are able to raise the funds to get her back to health, or if you feel more comfortable calling your donation in to Cheat Lake Animal Hospital you can do so by calling [phone redacted]. Please tell them you would like to contribute to Shay's medical costs and give them my name, Samantha Edgell, as I am the advocate for her at this time.

Once Shay is healthy and ready to be re-homed we will be looking for someone with lots of love to give to this precious girl. I personally will not be deciding who she will be rehomed with. I am working with another woman who is familiar with rescues and rehoming and our number one priority is to find her a loving home where she will be inside and well taken care of as well as maintaining her vaccinations and regular visits  to a vet as needed.
A few things I can tell you about Shay from my time with her: she is a very sweet and gentle dog, she has not shown any signs of aggression towards any humans although she DOES NOT LIKE OTHER DOGS!!! this is very important to understand!!! Who ever is interested in adopting her must not have any other pets!! We do not know what she has been through and cannot blame her for her fear of other dogs/animals. She listens to some commands. She can sit, she goes directly to the kennel when told to do so, she is house trained from what I can tell. The only accidents she has had is from soft food she ate because of her tooth. She does let you know when she needs to go outside and she tends to use the bathroom in the same spot every time. She has been very good in the car and around other humans. She loves the cuddle and given attention just like any other animal.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read this, pass it along, or donate. I will update regularly with any new news regarding Shay and her progress. WARNING: SOME PICTURES MAY BE GRAPHIC TO SOME VIEWERS
