Ellas Medical Expenses and Supports

My beautiful daughter, Ella, has been battling a life threatening condition for over 10 years now, Idiopathic Progressive Infantile Scoliosis. Idiopathic Progressive Infantile Scoliosis is a severe condition that twists and curves the spine internally, deforming internal organs on its path of destruction. Ella has had multiple non-invasive and invasive procedures to help slow her curves progression and give her quality of life. She has had plastic braces, plaster casts, halo traction, titanium rods and chrome cobalt rods and has spent her entire life in and out of hospital. She has undergone 48 spinal operations to date. Despite all efforts her life expectancy is reduced, the prognosis is dull and her quality of life is declining. This life threatening condition has also caused Ella to have cardiac dysfunction, neurological deficits, severe chronic pain, reynauds phenomena, gastrointestinal disturbances, osteopenia, decreased lung function and decreased digestive function. She takes multiple medications just to get through the day, and then still has days where getting out of bed is just unachievable. Due to Ellas continous decline in health and mobility the medical expenses and supports are only increasing. In order for Ella to get around in the community whilst she is with us, she needs all the help she can get. The $7000 raised to date has gone towards her electric wheelchair which was $19,500. Each operation can cost around $2,500, if not more, and the cost of each rehabilation is extremely substantial. General aids and general care including specialist appointments can range from $50-$500, this is a daily struggle. I have done all i can as her mother and it breaks my heart to have to ask for help. However without support i cannot be there for Ella when she needs me the most. Ella has endured more than any human life should have to. It has been a heart wrenching, life changing and unimaginable journey it has also bought about some of the most precious moments in my life. I hope this documentary can advocate for early treatment and serve as a reminder for how precious life can be and how you need to make the most out of each day with your loved ones.
