I have known Terry, Lacie, Ella (8) and Brody (3) Cox for about 5 years now. They are my neighbors and dear friends. In those 5 years I've come to love them very much. Terry has been serving the community as a police officer for 9 years. He is always willing to help out anyone and everyone. He's a happy person, social and extremely fun to be around. Lacie stays home with her two kids and serves in her church as a leader and president over all the primary kids that attend. She's the neighborhood babysitter that is always available in time of crisis. She's always present and willing to lend a hand or a listening ear. Ella is their beautiful 8 year old little girl. She's always kind, soft spoken, extremely intelligent and very sweet. She loves to read and is one of the top academic students in her class. Brody is my favorite 3 year old boy. He's into trucks, cars and anything destructive. Total boy. Really an amazing family!
ELLA'S STORY
Ella was born with a rare heart defect called, "Ebstein's Anomaly." From the moment she was born by means of an emergency C-Section she has conveyed her desire and ability to fight. The nurses performed CPR to give her a jump start into life, and shortly after, her incredible doctors discovered her heart defect. She spent a week in the NICU and came home for the first few months of her life on oxygen. She has been treated at Primary Children's Hospital receiving Echocardiogram's, X-Ray's, and EKG's every 6-12 months since the day she was born. She's had 2 cardiac ablations ( somewhat minor surgeries ) . Her family watches her closely and encourages her to take breaks when running around with friends or becoming too hyper. She always manages to stay strong and positive through all of it and enjoys life to the fullest!
We all aim to keep her feeling well and hope that the surgery she has been presented with will provide her with a normal and long life going forward!
OPEN HEART SURGERY
Unfortunately the time has come for this wonderful family's 8 year old baby girl to have OPEN HEART SURGERY. The Cox family lives in Midvale, Utah and all of her doctors have agreed that a specialist at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota is the very best option. Ebsteins anomaly is a rare condition and Dr. Joseph Dearani at The Mayo Clinic is the only Ebsteins specialist in the country.
They will need to travel and stay in Minnesota for approximately two weeks with their sweet Ella at the time of her procedure.
The procedure is scheduled for June 29th of this year and we are running out of time. The hospital is out of network for their insurance company and they are refusing to cover any of the surgery expenses. The surgery itself will cost $130,000 in addition to the anesthesiologist's bill, the hospital stay, and travel. They are still working with the insurance to make something happen but will still end up with ATLEAST a $30,000 hospital bill if the insurance ends up covering a portion. We are hoping to raise atleast that for this family that sacrifices daily for our community. Let's give back and help them to help their baby girl at the best chance at a full and rich life!
At this time Ella's family is trying to find the best way to tell Ella about this surgery. Please do not approach her about it until further notice.
