In Memory of Elizabeth Lumbama

It is with great sadness that we let everyone know that our good friend and organizer Chris Lumbama lost his Mom this past week to a severe and sudden illness.

We would like to offer our sincere condolences to Chris and his family.

Chris has played a huge role in so many peoples’ lives and spent years of service

committing to helping so many people in organizing: Beach volleyball, and birthday parties, camping weekends, church outings, hiking trips, ski trips.

inviting people who didn't family in town on Christmas  and Thanks giving days  for special dinner at his place, fixing any one of a number of home fix up problems for so many people, helping the volleyball group raise money so the rest of us could play volleyball for free...... and the list could go on and on.

On April 4th, 2019,Chris’ mother, Elizabeth Lumbama, passed away after a very brief  and unexpected illness.  Her dying   wish was to be buried besides her beloved husband Elijah in their home country Zambia.

Many of you may not know but Chris’ dad was the first African Missionary to Canada. Zambia is a Christian country and 73% of the country is Christian.

Chris and his family are raising money to help with the funeral and the cost of repatriating her body for burial back home in Zambia.

As a group of supporters we feel it is important to help the family in fulfilling his mothers’ last wish of being laid to rest beside her husband.

Chris is very much like both his father and mother.  Both of his parents served the community in a sacrificial way and Chris continues this rich heritage of giving back…..service before self.

Your thoughtfulness and generosity is greatly appreciated!!!

The custom in the village where Chris' mom came from is to have the body returned so the village can also have closure.  In fact, the tradition is very detailed and once there is a time set for the her return , a fire will be lit and guarded 24 hours a day until the body is returned.  After the funeral the ashes of the fire are celemoniously swept in honour of her and her families’ life.  It may be difficult for many of us to understand those traditions and Chris has tried to inform his family of the high cost, however, in speaking with Chris this one request is really something that is important to the family.

If you are able to help through prayer or by asking other people to help, or donating to the campaign all efforts would be greatly appreciated.

On behalf of all of Chris’s friends thank you for helping in this time of need.

If you have already donated thank you for helping.  As we still have a long way to go to reach our target please spread the word as much as possible.
